When we were teens working our first jobs, waiting tables at a private school in the summer, when scientists would come from the world over to have conferences, study, and get fed three times a day, we witnessed the more extreme cases of allergic reactions when a scientist asked if there were any shellfish in the fare we were serving. The stuffing of the meat, it turned out, had shredded something—crab or lobster—and the man swelled, turned red, and had to be rushed to the hospital. What is most frightening, I think, is that such allergic reactions can include the tongue swelling. Think about it. If your tongue swells too far, it will block your breathing passages. You’re done.

In my case, many years after my fear that we had killed an important person—who showed up unshaken the next morning, by the way—it turns out I had allergic reactions to soy products: I loved to (and was so lazy about cooking that I would) eat raw hot dogs. At the same time, I was experimenting with health food store items and had drunk a big glass of soy milk. Imagine: an innocuous little thing like a bean….

I have, in my third and fourth decades of living, discovered some of the most unusual of allergic reactions and have learned the most interesting of realities about allergies. The education began when I was teaching my second semester of college English. As one up to that point who rarely missed a day of work, I was appalled to find one very early summer morning that I had an enflamed face and that every pore on my face had filled with a blister—a tiny pustule that was, as if the redness wasn’t enough, itchy.

When I went to the clinic (not yet having medical coverage of any kind), the clinician seemed nonplussed. She told me with a shrug that 1) I would have to experiment by isolating foods in my most recent diet until I found the culprit (since I had not changed laundry or body soaps didn’t add any chemicals or perfumes to my repertoire, etc.); and 2) I had developed these allergic reactions—or allergic symptoms—all of a sudden…that my perfect health record of many years had nothing to do with the fact that as we get older, she said, we can pathogenically change: we can develop allergies to foods we have eaten our whole lives.

Allergic reactions as I describe are no big deal, really; and a tube of Benadryl cream and a Benadryl capsule (which makes you sleep, so watch out) are all that were needed. But other allergic reactions are hideous, drastic, and emergent. Many require immediate medical attention, as they are deadly…or, the allergens causing the allergic reactions are.

The first thing is provide funding for local agencies and government departments to help parents. Put content and resources on specialty web sites with advice on surviving a crisis. Your teen is in trouble, what can be done? Parents can often be at a loss in times of stress. Getting their kid off drugs is a major problem. But just as important is the issue of the health and well being of the parent.

There are support groups in the community. It’s better for people living in towns and cities and not so easy for folks in isolated areas. These support groups do offer counseling or have information about where counseling can be found. It’s bad enough having a teen in trouble; the last thing anyone wants is to have the parent of that kid in a bad way too.

Certainly seek professional medical advice even if just to be able to talk to someone about your health as you stress out over your troubled teen.

As silly as it sounds, a determined parent of a troubled teen could actually start their own support group. Place an ad in the local paper or your church or sporting club newsletter, explain that you are the parent of teenager and would like to meet with other such parents to discuss ways of keeping the kids on the right path and the sanity of the parents intact. You might be surprised who and how many respond. Remember it is a support group. You want to know how you can help and be helped.

A good piece of advice for a parent is to understand that a teenager may be the last person to admit or even discuss their troubles. Many teens who are struggling are in a state of denial. You, as their parent, can see their grades have fallen, their weight is dropping and they are spending long periods alone in their room. You know there is a problem but your son or daughter refuses to discuss the matter. Be aware of this and do not let the matter run on without taking action.

If there is one thing a parent should know it is that they are not alone. There are millions of parents just like you who wonder what on earth they can do to help their teen.

Here are some simple words of advice. Never give up on your child. Take heart from the many stories of parents who have helped their kids get back on track. And remember that no matter how much you love your child, you should always look after them.

Your actions would definitely go a long way in providing the much needed boost in their struggle to make a mark in the modeling world. You should also make the kid aware of the darker sides of the industry and how to keep themselves out of trouble.

As a parent it is your duty to maintain your cool and respect your child’s decision. At times, many parents often object to their choices when they express their desire to pursue a modeling career. Parents must support them through the process and at times can helm him/her with appropriate suggestions. If the teenagers are aware of the industry and its pros and cons they become mature enough to tackle various situations. Their run starts with preparing the right model portfolio. If the teen models are supported by their parents there are lesser chances of being exploited. For example, parents can suggest some good and trustworthy photographers they know for developing the model portfolio. This way they can be protective as well as supportive of their child’s attempt to pursue their dreams.

Finally, it is upon the parents to keep their teen models grounded. There is every chances that they may be swept off easily fantasizing of becoming super models. Hence they may try to spend all their time in pursuing their dream forgetting other responsibilities. The parents must make them aware of the ground reality and that such things may not be everlasting.

Naruto is a very well-known Japanese manga (comic) and anime (animation) series, both in the US and across the world. The series, both manga and anime, have created a phenomenal success throughout the world, especially amongst teens and young adults. The manga has been running since 1999 and has had up to Volume 46 as of May 1, 2009, while the anime has been airing since October 3, 2002 in Japan and is still showing on TV Tokyo as of now.

The series quickly gained its fans because of its story, which the main character, Naruto Uzumaki, had to go against all the odds in order to reach his dream and to protect the bond he has with his lost best friend. So many people could relate to Naruto’s hardship in life, and to some point idolize him. The characters around him played really important parts in the story. Amongst these characters is his teacher, Hatake Kakashi.

Hatake Kakashi is one of the most popular characters in Naruto series. Apart from his parts in training and teaching Naruto both physically and mentally, which played the important part in Naruto’s growth throughout the series, he became really popular amongst the fans because of his laid-back character. The fans have known him the most for his signature hobby; reading the Icha-Icha book series, the “adults” books written by Jiraiya, another teacher of Naruto, and his mysterious “face” which has always been concealed by a mask.

However, when Kakashi was teased to be “dying” or “dead” by the manga author in the latest arc in the Naruto manga, it sent a somewhat panic fever amongst the fans. It was as if hearing the news of someone very close to you die. Most fans were in disbelief and some even claimed not to continue reading and following the series anymore.That just shows how much Kakashi is loved amongst Naruto fans.

Whether it is true that Kakashi is “really” dead, it is best to just enjoy every Naruto episode of the anime where we can still see Kakashi well and alive, and enjoy that while we can.

Many things can lead to depression. A teenager is just learning how to handle the pressures and emotions of an adult. Only 30% of teens suffering seek help. The others just suffer through and do their best to get through. Adults have difficulty dealing with many things, asking a teenager to deal with it on their own, is not be the best option.

Learning the signs of depression for our youth can be difficult. Depressed teenagers are often just seen as being a teen. Signs of irritability, fatigue, withdrawal and changes of eating and sleeping habits, are seen as normal signs of growing up and hormone surges. They are also signs of depression. Learning the difference in your teen’s behavior may be key in getting them the help that they need.

Learning to talk to your teen may be your best investment in their mental health. Parents and adults in a teen’s life struggle with this aspect. They often want to see the teen as still a child where the teen wants to be seen as an adult. Learning to bridge this gap and communicate efficiently may be a daunting task, but can be managed.

An adult should learn to offer support when conversing with a teenager. Let them know you are there for them. Ensure them that you are available to them at any time. Show them that you can listen without being judgmental. Don’t try to talk them out of the way that they feel. Show them that you can understand and give them the help that they need to deal with how they are feeling.

Trust your own instincts. If you have a teenager that is showing signs of depression get them help. Trusting your own feelings and emotions may be what sets the teen on the road to better mental health. They may resist getting help at first. Be firm. Let them know you are there for them and willing to work with them, but insist that they find someone they can work with to help them through this difficult time in their life.

Often a teen will find it easier to speak with someone other than a parent. Consider a peer mentor for your teen. These are teens that are trained to work with others. They become a positive influence. Teen mentors can become a confidant and will be there for the teen that may be in trouble otherwise.

Teenage depression is a serious problem, but can be treated. Learn to recognize the symptoms and get help as soon as possible. Turn the teen in your life into a success story instead of a statistic.

In the past four months, there have been four weighty books published on the subject, with titles like Hooked: New Science on How Casual Sex Is Affecting Our Children and So Sexy So Soon. Most of these treatises have a similar thesis: young girls are sexually loose because they’re aping behavior they see on TV or read about in magazines. And as if on cue, the media deliver a new 90210 with an oral-sex scene in the first episode; Gossip Girl comes back with billboards promoting it as MIND-BLOWINGLY INAPPROPRIATE … and your daughter starts singing that alarmingly suggestive song about licking a lollipop.

Before we reinstitute the chastity belt, though, we might need to take a breath. There are lots of reasons to worry about adolescent girls having sex too early, ranging from serious health risks to the likelihood that they are seeking it for the wrong reasons to the impact it may have on their ability to maintain healthy future relationships. But is it the sex we’re worried about or the sexiness? Is it what they do or how they look? And whose problem is this anyway?

Wasn’t It Ever Thus?

Middle school counselor Julia Taylor of North Carolina had a conversation with her sixth-graders last year that worried her. “A lot of them were watching The O.C.,” she says. “I just remember the show’s multiple sexual partners, the cocaine use, and then at the end, they drink, they drive, they set fires, but all is well! There are never any consequences.” Taylor understands the media better than many. Her sister Mary is a producer who has worked on MTV shows including My Super Sweet 16 and Spring Break. “I’m messing them up, and she’s fixing them,” says Mary jokingly. But Mary also suggests that if nobody were watching the shows or buying the products that are advertised on them, they wouldn’t succeed. “We’re not Little House on the Prairie anymore,” she says. “The world is different. If parents said, ‘You can’t watch this,’ and the ratings dropped, maybe we would change things.”

Society has always had this Taylor-sisters duality in its attitude toward young women. Like steak-house owners trying to raise vegetarians, we idealize youth and sexiness but recoil if our young want to be sexy. What has complicated things recently is that girls are literally getting older younger. Their bodies are hitting physical maturity sooner, often before they are ready to deal with the issues of sexuality that go along with it. According to Jane Brown, a journalism professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, “Twelve-to-14-year-old girls who start puberty earlier are more interested in sexual content in the media.” Brown’s studies found that adolescents whose media diet was rich in sexual content were more than twice as likely as others to have had sex by the time they were 16.

I do not mean religious beliefs.

I am talking about your view of yourself, people, friends, and the world in general. Whatever opinions you have about you and the world around you will influence what you think, feel, say, and do.

What is the definition of beliefs?

Beliefs are any ideas you think are true about yourself, others, and life.

Clarity and awareness of what you believe, what you want, and why you want it can be like a beacons on a clear night guiding you towards making your dreams come true.

Unfortunately most of us are not aware of our beliefs. We acquired many of them when we were very little, and as we mature they affect our feelings, thoughts, and actions if we know it or not.

The problem is that many of our beliefs may be self-defeating.

A self-defeating believe is unsupportive-it does nothing to help us.

An example of an unsupportive, self-defeating belief can be found in the circumstances of a young girl who is told repeatedly that women do not have a good mind for business. This thought is impressed upon her subconscious mind and grows throughout her teens. Her perception and experiences are in alignment with this impression and, therefore, reinforce it. The girl goes through college, finds a job, and moves to an area that experiences a real estate boom. However, all the houses she finds are bad deals. Sometimes she arrives too late. Her experiences match the impression in her subconscious that she doesn’t have a good mind for business.

A second girl is told that she can do anything she wants and that she has a good mind for business. Her experiences reinforce this impression. By the time she moves to the same area as the first girl, she’s already created several businesses. She sees incredible deals all over town and moves immediately on them.

Our upbringing, what we have been told, and our experience mold our beliefs. They are the windows through which we see ourselves and the world and by which we govern the quality of our lives.

Take a close look and identify the unsupportive beliefs that are holding you back from living the life of your dreams. You can change your beliefs anytime you want if you choose to do so!
